I'm about to embark on a new project involving an AD Migration from an acquired company into the purchaser's forest. I've read through many of the Quest whitepapers, and MS articles on this subject, and have come up with an initialdiscovery checklist. I would be interested in your thoughts/comments, and in particular if there are any glaring omissions I've not considered.
Here's my list (in no particular order):-
- DNS / Name Resolution working between the two environments
- Trust relationship ?
- Admin ID with access to both environments
- Network Topology / Connectivity / Site design
- Health of both directories (replication, good backups etc..)
- OU / GPO structure and requriements
- User / Group inventory
- Servers (file, print, application) and ACL's
- Exchange / SharePoint / SQL
- Inhouse or 3rd party apps that have AD dependencies
- Printers
