I was having some problems with a secondary domain controller (we'll call it SERVER2) on my network. Since our network is actually quite small, I opted to demote SERVER2 and remove the DC role from it. However, after 2 days of troubleshooting, I had to do a forced demotion/removal. After doing so, I cleaned up the meta data by using ntdsutil (verified by following GUI removal steps as well).
Since I still need SERVER2 (it hosts web apps), I renamed it (APPS) (to avoid any problems that may come from using the same computer name as the one removed), and joined it to the domain as a member server.
Here's where it gets weird...after the first login to APPS after joining the domain, the Server Manager Dashboard loaded and displayed a notification for a waiting task. The task was a "Post-deployment Configuration" task stating configuration...
