I am currently working on a project to migrate to a windows domain. One of my main objectives is to make sure that the transitions are as seemless as possible.
The new equipment has been purchased and is already in the process of being setup and configured, in a new VMware environment. As you might guess from the title of this post, the server is in a workgroup environment, with local users used to authenticate network file share and printer access. I've been thinking about how best to make the transition, and I'm wondering if setting up DFS between the current workgroup file server (I'll have to join it to the new domain first)and the new win2012 file server, would be the best option. Then I can transition the staff one group at a time.
So do I join the current server to the new domain as a member server, and then implement dfs? Seems...
