Group Policy Preference NOT applying correctly - at all

This moves on from a previous thread I created about having a more efficient way of creating mapped drives. After much searching I have been able to achieve this with Group Policy Preference - but as we're running a 2K3 server, I've had to install GPP on my Vista machine. I initially found issues with getting the drives to map correctly and have found that they appear only on every-other logon. This is an issue caused by XP & Vista - Fast Logon, and it's possible to disable it via GPP. So I've created a separate Policy to disable Fast Logon and apply it to my user account the same way as I did with Mapped Drives (the option actually sits at Administrative Templates\System\Logon\Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon).

But it's not working. I've managed to run RsoP and I never appears to record data for the Mapped Drives, but on checking the Event Logs locally, I see that the Policy I created for Disable Fast Logon shows as "Not Applied (Empty)" - which isn't right as the setting has been enabled (to disable the fast logon feature).

So I'm left wondering where my problem is. Currently we have a fairly frequent DNS issue which requires a reboot, and I understand that WILL cause problems, but currently it's running smoothly but this issue with GPP remains and I have found no way of resolving it.

I know that I could easily enable the "Reconnect" option but I can't use that as a possible solution, the drives need to be un-mapped when not connected to the domain.

Can anyone shed any light on this? I've asked the question over @ technet but no much help has been forthcoming.
