What are my options for managing IE10 via GPO in a Server 2008 R2 domain?

Over the past few days I've come to the surprising realization that Microsoft more or less cut off support for managing Internet Explorer via GPO since IE8 in an attempt to push people to upgrade to Server 2012. We used GPOs to push out policies for Favorites, Trusted Sites, and forced Compatibility View on certain websites. I've tried to find options on how to do this to IE10 from our 2008 R2 environment, and I'm not liking my options. I can either:

1) Spin up a Server 2012 member server, create the GPOs there, and push them out via our 2008 R2 DCs.

2) Attempt to push out GPO settings through workaround trickery, such as deploying favorites by creating GPO actions to add shortcuts to the IE Favorites folder, and hope it all works.

3) Downgrade everybody's IE to version 8 and accept that reality until we get versed enough in Server 2012 and decide to deploy it, even though we JUST migrated from 2003 to 2008 R2.

4) Manage IE10 through some method I'm currently unaware of (cue Spiceworks community).

Am I missing anything here, or am I just now confronting the same annoying reality as every other admin out there?
