New Domain / Joining an existing Domain?

Hi all,

At present, I run a Server 2008R2 Domain across 5 sites, each site having a local Domain Controller and a Primary DC at our Head Office.

Shortly, the 5 sites will be split up, two going one way, three going another (company split).

I don't have any concerns with the 3 site split, as this will have the primary DC and two local DC's and will cotinue to operate, however what happens with the other two sites with only local DC's?

I assume I can change one of the local DC's to be a primary DC, this shouldn't be too complex, but to make it worse these two sites are joining another network that doesn't operate a domain (they uses server 2003 as a workgroup on prehistoric hardware)...they want the domain name changing, linking to their sites and sharing resources across all!

Would it be easier/faster to buy a new primary DC for their site, create a new domain name and repoint my DC's to their primary DC with new domain credentials? Is there any other way around this?

Thanks in advance,
