In upgrade scenarion we have 3 dns servers.
dns1 (act as relay or read only dns) (windows 2000 server)
dns2 (windows 2003 domain controller)
dns2 (windows 2008 R2 domain controller holding FSMO)
In decomm. process I would like to demote windows 2003 DC and make it as stand alone dns server and keep the existing dns1 (windows 2000) server as well.
I am not sure if this can be achive or not so, here are the open question -
1.) when i demote dns2 (windows 2003 DC) server as DC will it also remove DNS? If it does'n then can i install DNS service on dns2 server (windows 2003) even though DFL and FFL is windows 2008 R2?
3.) well not sure about dns1 server (windows 2000) will i be able to keep this server as read only dns server in env. after moving DFL and FFL to windows 2008 R2?
