Hello SpiceWorks community!
I am back with another strange issue and am seeking advice.
Ultimately, what I am trying to accomplish is to break the "ball and chain" between a user and their workstation. I have tried roaming profiles, but have had so many issues with it I abandoned that idea. When I first created the Folder Redirection GPO, it was working perfectly. It is within a Server 2008R2 DC pushed out to primarily Windows 7 machines (we are in the middle of upgrading all our XPs to 7). At first it worked great. Mapped the home folder to Z: and each time a user signed in to a new machine, Folder Redirection applied and kept all their documents and desktop.
Somewhere down the line (possibly updates from Microsoft) stopped this from working. Now, when the user signs on for the first time, their profiles get redirected properly. A random few don't get the Z: drive mapped to their redirected folder location. If they sign in to a new machine with the profile already existing on the network share, the folder redirection fails and they are put on a local profile. The only way to get them back is to change the name of the folder in the network share, sign them in to recreate it on a new profile, and transfer their files back in. This can get very troublesome, especially since our company is planning on gaining new employees in the near future and moving people around.
Is there any way to accomplish this? If any further details are needed for advice, please let me know.
Thanks,
Justin
